Understanding Pinterest: Pins, Pin Links, Boards, and Board Sections
What is a Pin?
On Pinterest, a "pin" is like a virtual bookmark that users can save on their Pinterest boards. Basically, when users save an image or video to their Pinterest boards, it becomes a pin. You can think of it as a way to collect and organize things you like from the internet. Pins cover all sorts of topics like hobbies, ideas, products, recipes, do-it-yourself projects, etc.
What is a Pin link?
A "pin link" refers to the hyperlink or URL associated with a specific pin on Pinterest. Each pin is typically linked to an external website, blog, or source that hosts the original content represented by the pin.
What is a "board" option?
A Pinterest board is like a digital bulletin board where you pin visual bookmarks based on your interests. For example, if you're planning a home renovation, you can create a board called "Home Renovation Ideas" and pin images of designs and furniture. Boards keep your content organized and shareable with others who share similar interests.

Note: You have to create a board on Pinterest first before you can see the "board" option on Vista Social. Here's how! |
What is a "board section" option?
In Pinterest, a "board section" is a feature that allows users to further organize and categorize the pins within a single Pinterest board. It's like creating subsections or folders within a larger board to group similar or related content together.
For example, if you have a Pinterest board about "Travel," you can create board sections within it, such as "Beach Destinations," "City Escapes," "Hiking Trails," and so on. Each section will contain pins that correspond specifically to that topic.
Scheduling Pinterest posts with Autopost
To get started, select Pinterest from your list of profiles, hover over the left side menu then click Create, then choose from the four posting options (New post, Bulk publishing, Find content, and Smart publishing) as shown below:
|
Note: Pinterest currently has a character limit of 100 and you can immediately see the post preview on the right side to get an idea of what it would look like once published. |
After adding your content, choose the Pinterest board and board section to post to in the preview area (you may need to scroll down a bit)
Below are some sample posts that were published via Vista Social!
1. Text w/ link preview
2. Single image post
Image post which may or may not include a text or a text + link
3. GIF post
GIF is a short animation that is normally used for sharing emotions or memes that might be difficult to express through text
4. Single video post
Videos are used to gain more attention and increase conversion since they entertain the audience more than a regular text or an image post. See video posting guidelines for Pinterest here.
Planning Pinterest posts with Reminder Notifications
You can plan your Pinterest posts in Vista Social using Reminder Notifications, if you'd prefer to not have them auto-post, by specifying the mobile device (yours or any of your team members) to be sent a notification at the scheduled time.
Step 1. Download the Vista Social application
Step 2: Run the app and allow notifications.
IMPORTANT: Allowing notifications is vital for you to be able to receive notifications.
Step 3: Log in with your Vista Social account
If you don't have an account please create one here. If you are a member of a team that uses Vista Social, please contact your account admin.
Step 4: Schedule your Pinterest Post
Now, back on the web version of Vista Social, when scheduling a post, choose a Pinterest profile.
After crafting your post, you will find an option to change from auto-post to reminder notification and be able to pick your "device" (the phone from which you have logged in) from a list.
If your device does not show up, please be sure to log in to the mobile app on the phone first and refresh the web screen.
Click Next and schedule your post!
Step 5: Open the notification and share on Pinterest
You will receive a notification on your phone, like this:
When you click on it, it'll show you the caption and media for the post. Click on"Continue to Pinterest", making sure to grant permission to access your phone's photos.
The caption will have been automatically copied to your clipboard, so you can paste it from here.
(Optional) Step 6: Mark your post as published
Simply click on the check mark to acknowledge the post (mark it posted) or the x mark to reject it (you don't want to publish it). This will help better track this post on your calendar:
