Reddit is built around communities, called subreddits, where people go deep on the topics they care about. For brands that take part the way the community expects, it's one of the most engaged audiences online. With Vista Social you can schedule Reddit posts, track performance with Reddit reporting, and reply to comments and messages from one place.
New in October 2026: Reddit posting rules. Reddit posts in Vista Social now follow a set of posting rules: up to 5 posts per profile per day, at least 60 minutes between posts, up to 2 posts per subreddit per day, no repeated content, and a content check on every post. Read Reddit posting rules before you schedule, so your posts go out on time.

Reddit posting rules
Why these rules exist
Reddit is one of the strictest networks about automated posting, and it keeps getting stricter:
- API access is now by approval. Under Reddit's Responsible Builder Policy, every app that posts to Reddit has to be approved first, and it is responsible for what gets posted through it. The policy specifically bans "posting identical or substantially similar content across subreddits."
- Spam is defined broadly. Reddit's spam policy, most recently updated in October 2026, covers repeated or unsolicited posting whether it's automated or manual, including mass-posting repetitive content, repeatedly sharing old content, and promoting the same product across many communities.
- Fewer third-party apps over time. Reddit has said it will gradually restrict API access and move third-party apps onto its own Developer Platform, and it is asking every app to register and identify itself.
Reddit enforces this on two levels:
- Your account. Reddit and subreddit moderators remove posts that look like spam. Repeat cases lead to warnings, then 3-day and 7-day bans, then a permanent ban. Reddit can also add an NSFW label to content that should have one.
- The app you post from. When accounts post spam through a tool, Reddit can restrict or cut off that tool's access, which stops Reddit publishing for everyone who uses it.
The rules below keep your posts in line with what Reddit expects from scheduled content. They protect your Reddit account, and they keep Reddit publishing working for every Vista Social customer.
The rules
These rules apply to every Reddit profile by default. Vista Social checks them when you schedule, edit, or bulk upload a post, including posts created through Ask Vista and the API. Drafts aren't checked until you schedule them.
| Rule | Limit | If a post breaks it |
|---|---|---|
| Posts per profile | Up to 5 posts in any 24 hours | Pick a time outside that 24 hours or remove a post from it |
| Time between posts | At least 60 minutes between posts on the same profile | Move the post at least 60 minutes away from the closest post |
| Posts per subreddit | Up to 2 posts per profile in the same subreddit in any 24 hours | Pick a different time or a different subreddit |
| Repeated content | A post's title or text can't be nearly the same as another post on the same profile within 3 days, before or after | Rewrite the title and the text |
| Same post on several profiles | You can't send the same or a very similar post to more than one Reddit profile at once | Write a different post for each profile |
| Content check | Posts that may break Reddit's content rules are blocked. Posts with sexual or graphic violent content are labeled NSFW | See Content check and NSFW |
A few details that help:
-
Subreddits are matched by name.
r/Marketing,marketing, andhttps://www.reddit.com/r/marketing/all count as the same subreddit. - Title and text are compared separately. Changing only the link, or only the title, isn't enough. Reddit sees a fixed title with a rotating link as spam, and so does Vista Social.
- Links are ignored when comparing posts. Two posts with the same text and different links count as the same post.
- Posts you delete after they publish still count toward repeated content. Deleting a published post and posting it again is a common spam pattern.
What you'll see
When a post breaks a rule, Vista Social doesn't save it and tells you why. For example:
Reddit posts from the same profile need to be at least 60 minutes apart. u/yourbrand already has a post at Oct 20, 9:00 AM. Pick a different time.
This post is too similar to a u/yourbrand post published on Oct 18, 2:30 PM. Reddit treats repeated content as spam, so each post from a profile needs to be substantially different.
These Reddit posts are identical or very similar across profiles. Reddit treats the same content posted from several accounts as spam. Write a different post for each profile.
Change the time, the subreddit, or the content, then save again.
Content check and NSFW
Vista Social checks the title and text of every Reddit post when you schedule or edit it.
-
Blocked: threats, hate speech, violent wrongdoing, self-harm, and sexual content involving minors. You'll see a message like this:
This post can't be published to Reddit because it may break Reddit's content rules (flagged for hate speech). If you think this is a mistake, contact support at support@vistasocial.com.
If you think the check got it wrong, email support@vistasocial.com with the post and we'll take a look.
-
Labeled NSFW: sexual content and graphic violence can go on Reddit, but they must be marked NSFW (not safe for work). Vista Social turns on Mark as NSFW for these posts automatically. Many subreddits don't allow NSFW posts at all, so check the community's rules first.
-
Everything else saves as usual, including news and discussion that mention violence.
You can also mark any post as NSFW yourself with the Mark as NSFW switch under Title in the Reddit settings of the post. Vista Social never turns it off for you.
If you see "We couldn't check this post against Reddit's content rules just now", the content check was briefly unavailable. Wait a few minutes and save again.
Posts already in your calendar
Posts that were scheduled before these rules, plus queue, evergreen, and recycled posts, are checked again right before they publish. If one breaks a posting rule at that point, for example because another post went out 30 minutes earlier, it fails with the reason instead of publishing.
When Reddit or a subreddit refuses a post (for example a community rule, required flair, a title that's too long, or a ban from the community), Vista Social doesn't retry it. Retrying a refused post is exactly what Reddit treats as an account ignoring its rules. The failed post shows Reddit's reason, so you can fix it and schedule it again.
Tips for posting on Reddit
- Read each subreddit's rules (in the sidebar or the "About" tab). Many communities limit self-promotion, only allow it on certain days or in a weekly thread, or require flair.
- Write for the community. A post that reads like an ad gets removed. Share something useful, ask a real question, or start a discussion.
- Take part, don't just post. Reply to comments on your posts from the Vista Social Inbox. Accounts that only post links get flagged quickly.
- Spread posts out. Fewer, better posts across the week do more than several posts in one day.
Content types you can publish
| Content type | Supported | Content type | Supported |
|---|---|---|---|
| Text-only post | ✓ | Single GIF post | ✓ |
| Text with an in-line link | ✓ | Single video post | ✓ |
| Link post with preview | ✓ | Multiple video post | × |
| Single image post | ✓ | Multiple image or gallery post | × |
| NSFW label | ✓ | Post with first comment | × |
| Post flair | ✓ | Post with tagging | × |
| Auto-delete after publishing | ✓ | Post with like | × |
Note: When a post has both a link and an image, Reddit gets a link post with the link preview. The image isn't attached. To post the image, remove the link or put it in the text instead.
Limits:
| Limit | |
|---|---|
| Title | 300 characters. If you leave it empty, the first sentence of your text is used |
| Text | 40,000 characters |
| Images | 1 per post, up to 10 MB |
| Videos | 1 per post, MP4 or MOV, up to 1 GB, 1 second to 15 minutes |
| Flair text | 64 characters |
Scheduling Reddit posts
- Hover over the left side menu, click Create, and choose New post, Bulk publishing, Find content, or Smart publishing.
- Select your Reddit profile.
- Write your post. The preview on the right shows how it will look on Reddit.
- Click the Reddit icon in the preview to open the Reddit settings, then:
- choose a subreddit (required),
- add a title (recommended, since many subreddits remove posts with weak titles),
- pick a flair if the subreddit uses them,
- turn on Mark as NSFW if the post isn't safe for work.
- Pick a time and schedule. Vista Social checks the Reddit posting rules when you save.
Post examples
Some posts published to Reddit with Vista Social.
1. Text post
Text only, with no links, images, or videos.
2. Link post with preview
Text with a link. Reddit shows the link's title, description, and image as a preview.
3. Single image post
An image, with or without text.
Adding post flair
Flair is a tag that subreddits use to sort posts by topic, such as "Question", "Discussion", or "News". It helps readers filter posts, and some subreddits require it.
To add flair, click the Reddit icon in the post preview and choose a subreddit first. The flairs for that subreddit then appear.
Good to know:
- The flairs you can choose from depend on the subreddit.
- If the subreddit has a set list of flairs, pick one from the dropdown.
- If the subreddit doesn't use flair, you'll see a message saying so.
- If the subreddit lets you edit flair text, you can change it after you select it, up to 64 characters.
Frequently asked questions
Why was my Reddit post blocked when I scheduled it?
It broke one of the Reddit posting rules. The message tells you which rule and what to change. Usually it's a time that's too close to another post, a third post in the same subreddit that day, or a post that repeats an earlier one.
Why did a scheduled Reddit post fail?
Either it broke a posting rule at publishing time, or Reddit or the subreddit refused it. The failed post shows the reason. Fix it and schedule it again. Vista Social doesn't retry refused Reddit posts.
Can I post the same thing to several subreddits?
Not as the same post. Reddit counts identical or nearly identical posts across subreddits as spam, and Vista Social blocks a post that's too similar to another post on the same profile within 3 days. Write a version for each community, and spread them out.
Can these limits be raised?
Yes, in some cases. If your team needs more room, for example a higher daily limit for a busy brand profile, contact our support team or email support@vistasocial.com and tell us which profile and what you need. Reddit's own spam rules still apply, so we'll look at how the profile posts before changing anything.
Do the rules apply to drafts?
No. They're checked when you schedule a post, and again right before it publishes.
Can I publish without flair?
Yes, unless the subreddit requires it. If flair is required and you don't pick one, Reddit refuses the post.
Can I publish without a subreddit?
No. Every Reddit post has to go to a subreddit. Reddit's API doesn't let third-party tools post to a personal profile.
My post was labeled NSFW. Can I turn it off?
When the content check finds sexual or graphic violent content, the post must be labeled NSFW to go on Reddit. If you think it was labeled by mistake, email support@vistasocial.com.
