Clip maker lets you take any video in your media library and turn it into multiple short clips ready to publish. Vista Social automatically analyzes the video, transcribes the audio, detects the best moments, and generates captions for each clip, so you can go from a long-form video to a batch of publish-ready content without leaving the platform.
How to use the clip maker
- Go to your Media Library and open any video.
- Click the three-dot menu in the upper right of the media panel.
- Select Clip maker.
Starting the analysis
A confirmation screen will appear showing the credit cost for that video, your current credit balance, and a note that rendering the clips you pick afterwards is free. Credits are charged for the analysis step only.
- Click Create clips to begin.
- Check the Don't ask again checkbox to skip this screen in the future.
Vista Social will process the video in stages: detecting scenes, transcribing audio, and identifying the best moments. This takes a few minutes.
Reviewing suggested clips
Once the analysis is complete, Vista Social presents the moments it found worth clipping. Each suggested clip shows:
- A title and short description of the moment
- Its timestamp range
- A clip's worthiness score
You can click any clip to preview it in the video player on the left.
From this screen, you can also:
- Toggle individual clips on or off
- Click + Add clip to create a custom clip manually
- Click Deselect all to start fresh
- Click Re-analyze to run the analysis again
Trimming by text
To create a clip based on specific spoken words:
- Click + Add clip.
- The full transcript appears on the right. Drag across the words you want, or click the first word then Shift-click the last. Selected words are highlighted.
- Click Done. The clip is added to your list with the transcript-defined in and out points.
You can also adjust the trim handles manually using the trim bar below the video preview.
Choosing format and captions
At the bottom of the scenes screen, set your preferences before creating clips:
- Format: 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, or 16:9
- Captions: toggle on to automatically generate and place captions on each clip
Creating the final clips
Once you're happy with your selections, click Create [n] clips. Vista Social renders each clip with captions applied. This step is free, regardless of how many clips you create.
When complete, your clips appear in a grid with their timestamp ranges shown below each one.
Clip actions
Below each finished clip, three icons let you:
-
Cover: open the cover editor to customize the clip's thumbnail
- Media library: save the clip to your media library
-
Create a post: go directly to the composer to schedule or publish the clip
At the top of the clips screen, a toggle lets you set whether the designed cover is used as the video thumbnail when posting.
To go back and adjust your scene selections, click Back to scenes.
