This guide outlines the recommended image sizes and formats for scheduling posts on each social network, as well as the conditions under which resizing may occur.

 

Image dimension guidelines per social network

Bluesky

  • Aspect ratio: Common aspect ratios such as 1:1 (square), 16:9 (landscape), or 4:5 (portrait) work best.
  • Maximum size: Typically under 976 KB for optimal upload and performance.
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC.

Facebook

  • Recommended size for posts and timeline photos: 1200 x 630 pixels
  • Minimum size: 600 x 315 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1.91:1
  • Maximum file size: 4MB

Instagram

  • Recommended image size: 1080 pixels (width), 566-1350 pixels (height)
  • Landscape: 1080 x 566 pixels
  • Portrait: 1080 x 1350 pixels
  • Square: 1080 x 1080 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: Anywhere between 1.91:1 and 4:5
  • Maximum file size: 8MB

Twitter

  • Recommended size for in-stream photos: 1600 x 900 pixels
  • Minimum size: 600 x 335 pixels

  • Recommended size for link preview images: 1200 x 627 pixels
  • Minimum size: 640 x 360 pixels
  • Maximum total pixels: 7680 x 4320 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 1.91:1
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG and GIF
  • Maximum file size: 3MB

Pinterest

  • Recommended size for Pins: 1000 x 1500 pixels
  • Aspect ratio: 2:3
  • Square pins: 1000 x 1000 pixels
  • Maximum file size: 20MB
  • Supported formats: JPG, PNG

Snapchat

  • Dimensions: 1080 x 1920 pixels
  • Aspect Ratio: 9:16
  • File Format: JPEG or PNG
  • Maximum File Size: 5 MB

TikTok

  • Maximum file size: 20MB
  • Maximum width: 1080 pixels
  • Recommended size: 1080 x 1920 pixels

  • Recommended size: 1280 x 720 pixels

Understanding image resizing across social networks

When sharing images on social networks, it’s important to be aware of how and when resizing occurs. Each social network has its own size limits, and exceeding those limits can result in us resizing your photos to fit these requirements. 

 

Important:

  • To avoid unexpected resizing, it’s best to stay under the file size limits recommended by each social network.
  • Resizing will also occur if your image exceeds required dimensions (image is too big in terms of width and height)
  • Always check the network's specific image sizes and format guidelines to maintain quality, as resizing can sometimes lead to loss of clarity or altered aspect ratios.
