How to resolve Instagram post tagging issues – Vista Social

If you receive an error message or post failure stating that a specific Instagram user cannot be tagged in your post, here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Possible reasons

1. Instagram users and business accounts can control who is allowed to tag them. If you encounter this error, it might mean that the account you are trying to tag has restricted their tagging settings.

2. Another possible reason is they have set their account to private. Currently, we can only tag public profiles.

3. If the user has restricted or blocked you, you won’t be able to tag them.

How to resolve the issue

1. The account you’re trying to tag may have settings that prevent everyone from tagging them. To verify this, try going to the Instagram app and tagging them, you can also try tagging another account to see if the issue is specific to one user.

2. If the user has restricted or blocked you, you won’t be able to tag them. Try tagging them from another account to check.

3. If you’ve followed these steps and still can’t tag the user, they may have intentionally restricted tagging. In that case, you will need their cooperation to change their settings or find an alternative way to mention them in your post.

4. You may ask them to modify their Instagram tagging permissions by opening Instagram and going to Settings.

Navigate to Tags and mentions.
Under Who can tag you, they can select:

- Everyone (to allow all users to tag them)
- People you follow (to restrict tagging to followed accounts)
- Don't allow tags (to disable tagging entirely)

If they want to manually approve tags, they can enable Manually approve tags under the same section.
