Tasks are where the actual work gets tracked in VistaWork. Each task can carry an assignee, priority, labels, due dates, a description, subtasks, checklists, attachments, and comments.
Creating a task
1. Open a project in Work.
2. Select the status you want the task to start in and add a title.
3. Open the task to fill in the details.
Fields you can set on a task
- Assignee: who's responsible for the task
- Priority: flag how urgent the task is
- Labels: tag tasks for easier filtering
- Due date: when the task needs to be done
- Description: supports pasting in formatted text, so content drafted elsewhere keeps its formatting
Subtasks, checklists, and attachments
- Break a task into subtasks that each move through their own status
- Add a checklist for step-by-step items within a task
- Attach files the same way you would anywhere else in Vista Social
- Mention teammates in comments to loop them in, they'll get notified
Notifications
Task notifications are on by default for the items your team is most likely to need right away, and off by default for lower-priority updates. You can adjust what you're notified about in your account notification settings.
Best practices
- Set a due date and priority on anything time-sensitive so it doesn't get lost in the board
- Use checklists for multi-step tasks instead of creating a subtask for every small step
- Paste formatted notes or briefs directly into the description instead of retyping them
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can a task have more than one assignee?
A: Each task has a single assignee. Use subtasks if you need to split the work across multiple people.
Q: Will I be notified about every change to a task?
A: Higher-priority notifications are enabled by default, while lower-priority ones are off by default so your notifications don't get overwhelming. You can adjust these in your notification settings.
Q: Can I move a task between statuses without opening it?
A: Yes. You can drag a task card between statuses directly on the board.
