Linking connects a VistaWork task to something you're already working on elsewhere in Vista Social, so the task always reflects the current state of that item instead of sitting as a static note.
What you can link a task to
- Posts
- Messages
- Ideas
- Listening results
- Reports
- Automations
- Advocacy items
- Pages
- Ask Vista chats and agents
Linked items stay live. For example, if a linked post moves to published, that update shows up wherever the task references it, instead of you having to check back manually.
Creating a linked task
1. From a post, idea, listening result, report, automation, advocacy item, or page, press Shift + T, or use the menu option to create a task.
Where to find the "Create task" option per section:
Calendar
Inbox
Automations
Reports
Reviews
Listening
Pages
Advocacy
Ask Vista
2. Once Create Task is clicked, the Create a task window opens with the item automatically linked to it. You can then choose to create a new task or link to an existing one.
3. Fill in the task details and save. The item you started from is automatically linked to the task.
Adding a link from inside a task
1. Open the task.
2. Select the option to add a link.
3. Choose the type of item you want to link, then select the specific item.
Best practices
- Link a task the moment you spot an issue, for example, while reviewing a report or a listening result, so the context isn't lost
- Use Shift + T as a shortcut instead of navigating to Work and creating the task separately
- Add multiple links to a task when several items are related, instead of creating separate tasks for each
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What's the fastest way to create a task from something I'm looking at?
A: Press Shift + T from that item to open the task creation window with it already linked.
Q: Can I link more than one item to the same task?
A: Yes. You can add multiple links to a single task from within the task itself.
Q: Do linked items update automatically?
A: Yes. Linked items reflect their current state, so you don't need to recreate the task if something changes.
