To prevent spam and ensure the best user experience, X rolled out some guidelines back in February 2018 that specifically address the posting of duplicate and substantially similar content across X accounts.
Here are a few excerpts from their policy for a clearer picture:
Do not (and do not allow your users to) simultaneously post identical or substantially similar content to multiple accounts. For example, your service should not permit a user to select several accounts they control from which to publish a given post.
Do not (and do not allow your users to) simultaneously perform actions such as Likes, Reposts, or follows from multiple accounts. For example, your service should not permit a user to select several accounts they control to follow a specified account.
The use of any form of automation (including scheduling) to post identical or substantially similar content, or to perform actions such as Likes or Reposts, across many accounts that have authorized your app (whether or not you created or directly control those accounts) is not permitted. For example, applications that coordinate activity across multiple accounts to simultaneously publish posts with a specific hashtag (e.g. in an attempt to cause that topic to trend) are prohibited.
Our goal is to help you engage with your audience while respecting the guidelines set by social networks!
To maintain a great relationship with the networks we integrate with and keep everyone in good standing, we've taken the following precautions for posting:
- X posts cannot be scheduled to more than 1 X profile at the same time
- X posts that post identical or substantially similar content cannot be scheduled within 72 hours of each other
- Social posts for all other networks must not be identical or substantially similar content
You can still schedule to multiple X profiles, just not at the same time and not containing the same message within 72 hours.
Scheduling to X requires the X add-on for each connected X profile.
Use Vista Social’s Similarity Checker tool to ensure your X posts won’t be flagged as similar or duplicates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why was my X post tagged as similar or duplicate?
A: To avoid issues with duplicate or repetitive content, Vista Social uses a similarity checker for X posts. If your post is 80% or more similar to one of your recent posts within the last 72 hours, it may be flagged as a duplicate.
