Posting defaults let you pre-set common publishing options for each connected profile so they automatically apply every time you create a new post. Instead of manually configuring the same settings post after post, you set them once, and Vista Social fills them in for you.
What you can set as a default
- Auto-publish setting
- Post comments (first comment text)
- Paid partnership toggle
- Comments enabled toggle
- Location
- Auto delete after
- Boost settings
How to set up posting defaults
While scheduling a post
- Open the Publish composer and select a profile.
- In the right panel, click on posting defaults next to Customize your post.
- If no defaults have been set, you'll see No defaults applied next to the section header.
- Click the arrow to open the defaults panel.
- Configure the options you want to pre-fill, such as Post comments, Auto publish, or Location.
- Click Save. You'll see a "Posting defaults have been saved" confirmation.
The next time you select that profile in the composer, your saved defaults will automatically be applied.
From your profile settings
- Go to Settings and select Connected profiles.
- Click on the profile you want to configure.
- Select Posting defaults.
- Set your preferred options and click Save.
How defaults work in the composer
Once defaults are saved for a profile, the Customize your post section will show Defaults applied instead of "No defaults applied."
- Defaults load automatically each time you pick that profile.
- You can still modify any setting on a per-post basis without affecting your saved defaults.
- If you're publishing to multiple profiles at once, each profile loads its own saved defaults independently.
Clearing and removing defaults
- Clear defaults: removes the applied defaults from the current post session without deleting your saved settings.
- Remove: permanently deletes the saved defaults for that profile, returning it to a clean slate.
Both options are available in the defaults panel within the composer.
Apply to all profiles of the same network
When you have multiple profiles from the same network (for example, several Instagram accounts), you'll see an Apply to all Instagram profiles option at the bottom of the defaults panel. This copies your current defaults to every Instagram profile in your workspace at once.
Best practices
- Use posting defaults for settings you apply consistently, such as a first comment with your hashtag set, a default location, or auto-publish enabled.
- If your posting strategy varies by campaign or content type, use the per-post override rather than changing your saved defaults each time.
- Review your posting defaults periodically if your standard workflow changes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will defaults override what I set manually in a post?
A: No. Defaults are a starting point. You can change any pre-filled setting on a per-post basis without affecting your saved defaults.
Q: Can I set different defaults for different profiles?
A: Yes. Posting defaults are configured at the individual profile level, so each connected profile can have its own set of defaults.
Q: What happens if I clear defaults mid-scheduling session?
A: Clearing defaults removes them from that post only. Your saved defaults for the profile remain intact and will load again the next time you select that profile.
Q: Can I save a first comment as a default?
A: Yes. Open the Post comments section in the defaults panel, type your comment, and save. It will pre-populate as the first comment on every post for that profile.
Q: Where else can I manage posting defaults outside of the composer?
A: You can view and update posting defaults anytime from Settings → Connected profiles → select a profile → Posting defaults.
