Advantages of using universal mentions
- Reduces the time it takes to mention all social profiles of a single brand/person
- Gives the user more control of who gets mentioned
- Ensures that the correct profile of a brand is mentioned in the post

How to disable universal mentions
While we recognize the value of the universal mentions, it is possible to turn them off and rely on just using mentions in message. The benefit here is that user does not need to spend time setting up universal mentions. The danger and risk here is that if the you are using an incorrect handle for the person you are trying to mention that it will either not work at all, the mention will just appear as text in the your post, or a completely wrong user will get mentioned. The latter will happen if for example you will mention @vistasocial (we don't know who owns it) instead of @vistasocialapp (our official handle)
Disabling universal mentions all creates difficulties mentioning users who have different usernames across social networks. For example, we are @vistasocial on LinkedIn and @vistasocialapp on Twitter. Universal mentions give you ability to mention us without much work. If you disable universal mentions, you'll just need to be careful.
LinkedIn Note: We can only look up handles of LinkedIn personal profiles if they are currently following your Company Page.
