Connect Google Tag Manager (GTM) to your Vista Page to track visitors with tools like Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel. You add your GTM container ID in Vista Social once, then manage your tracking tags in GTM.
Video guide
This video was recorded in January 2024, so some screens in Vista Social, Google, and Meta look different today. The written steps below match the current app.
Before you start
You'll need:
- A Vista Social plan that includes Google Tag Manager (Advanced, Scale, or Enterprise).
- A Google Tag Manager account with a web container.
- A Google Analytics 4 property, a Meta Pixel, or both, depending on what you want to track.
How to connect Google Tag Manager to your Vista Page
1. In Google Tag Manager, open your container and copy the container ID shown in the Workspace tab. It starts with GTM- (for example, GTM-ABCDEFGH).
2. In Vista Social, click Pages in the left sidebar (if you don't see it, click More first), open your Vista Page, and click Settings.
3. Under Google Tag Manager settings, paste your container ID and click Save GTM. You'll see a message that your GTM settings have been saved.
4. Click Publish page. Your GTM container loads on your published Vista Page.
|
Note Vista Social saves whatever you type in this field, so paste the full container ID, including GTM-. Your tags run on your published page, not in Preview. |
How to add Google Analytics
1. In Google Analytics, go to Admin → Data collection and modification → Data streams, open your web data stream, and copy the Measurement ID. It starts with G-.
2. In Google Tag Manager, click Tags → New, choose Google Tag as the tag type, and paste your Measurement ID into Tag ID.
3. Under Triggering, select Initialization - All Pages, then click Save.
4. Click Submit, then Publish to make your changes live.
For more detail, see Google's guide: Add the Google tag in Google Tag Manager.
How to add the Meta Pixel
1. In Meta Events Manager, copy your Meta Pixel base code.
2. In Google Tag Manager, click Tags → New, choose Custom HTML as the tag type, and paste the base code.
3. Under Triggering, select All Pages, then click Save.
4. Click Submit, then Publish.
For more detail, see Meta's help article: Google Tag Manager (Meta Business Help Center).
How to check that your tags work
1. In Google Tag Manager, click Preview, enter your published Vista Page URL, and click Connect. Tag Assistant shows which tags fired.
2. For the Meta Pixel, open Events Manager and check that PageView events come in from your Vista Page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I test my tags in the Vista Page Preview?
A: No. Google Tag Manager loads on your published Vista Page, not in Preview. Use your live Vista Page URL when testing.
Q: How do I change or remove my GTM container ID?
A: To change it, paste the new container ID and click Save GTM. The field can't be saved empty, so to stop tracking, pause or delete the tags in your GTM container and publish the container.
