Why is custom media important?
Below are some of the reasons why customizing your media for each network is important:
- Platform-specific requirements: Each social network has its own set of technical specifications and guidelines for media. For example, Instagram and Pinterest favor vertical images, while YouTube is designed for videos. Adhering to these requirements ensures that your content displays correctly, avoiding issues like cropping, distortion, or low resolution.
- Relevance: Different social media platforms cater to distinct audiences and content styles. Customized media allows you to tailor your visuals to fit the preferences and expectations of each platform, making your content more relevant and effective.
- User expectations: Social media users have different expectations and behaviours on each platform. Content that resonates on one platform may not work as effectively on another. By tailoring your media to each network, you can cater to user preferences and habits, increasing the chances of engagement.
-
Algorithmic preferences: Social media algorithms often prioritize certain types of content. For example, Facebook may favor video content, while Twitter may prioritize tweets with images. Adapting your media to these preferences can increase your content's visibility in users' feeds.
Adding custom media to your post
- To customize your media, click on Create and start crafting your post.
- In the preview customization area on the right-hand side, click on the network you want to customize your media for (e.g., Instagram).
- By clicking inside the media customization box, you can add/remove images and videos as well as change your media type.
- You’ll see a note above the main caption telling you that the media has been customized and has to be managed on the right-hand side.
|
Note When you add custom media, the specific network's media that you are editing will be unlinked from the main media in the middle of the publisher screen. Any changes you apply to the main media will not appear in the media preview of the social profile you edited. |
By customizing media for each social profile or network, you can use images and videos that are specific to that platform, which can increase your posts' quality, engagement, and improve your overall social media strategy. Give it a try, and let us know how it works for you!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I customize the thumbnail and sound for each social network when posting the same video?
A: Yes. After you change your thumbnail photo or add a different sound, choose the "Save and create new" option.
For context:
Save and update - any changes you make to the video will be applied everywhere that media is used. This includes all scheduled posts, published posts, and drafts that currently reference the same media item.
Save and create new - if you do not want those changes to affect existing or already scheduled posts, choose this option instead. This will create a new copy of the video with your new thumbnail, leaving the original media (and any posts using it) unchanged.
Q: Can I change the media type for each social network when posting the same content?
A: Yes. You can select a different media type for each network.
Example: Post an image to Twitter while posting a video to Instagram.
