The Employee Advocacy feature has a dedicated experience in the Vista Social iOS and Android app. Advocates can browse content, like, comment, repost, and share, check the leaderboard, and connect their social profiles, all from their phone, with push notifications when new content is ready to share.
Who sees this
- Any user whose Vista Social role is Advocate, on iOS and Android, in app version 1.47.3 or later. There's nothing to enable, no separate download. Advocates log in to the regular Vista Social app with their usual email and password, and the app takes them straight to the advocate experience.
- Program managers and brand admins don't get this view. Creating programs, inviting advocates, and program analytics still happen on the web. This feature covers the advocate side only.
- The advocate experience is fully translated, matching the app's existing language support.
Getting around the app
Advocates get four tabs: Content, Activity, Leaderboard, and Settings. They won't see the calendar, inbox, reports, media library, or Ask Vista, since none of that applies to their role.
Content tab
This is where advocates land, and it's an infinite scrolling feed of brand-approved posts. Each card shows:
- The media (image, video, document, poll, or a grid with a +N overlay when there's more)
- The caption and any labels the brand added
- Which networks the post is meant for
- How much engagement the post has already gathered from other advocates
- When the post was created
Every card carries the four action buttons inline, so advocates can act right from the feed without opening anything. Tapping the card itself opens the post engagement screen.
If an advocate hasn't connected any social profiles yet, they'll see a connect prompt right here on the Content tab, before they try to take an action and hit a dead end.
The four actions
Like, Comment, Repost, and Share, each performed from the advocate's own connected profiles.
- Tapping an action opens a sheet that checks which of the advocate's profiles can actually do that action on that post, and pre-selects the sensible ones. Profiles that can't be used show a reason (wrong network for this post, needs reconnecting, already acted).
- Comment and Repost give each selected profile its own text field, prefilled with the brand's suggested text, with a live character counter set to that network's real limit.
- Share goes through the normal publishing pipeline and can be published immediately or scheduled for later, in the program's timezone.
- Results come back per profile, so posting successfully to one profile while another needs reconnecting is a normal outcome, not an error. The feed, post engagement screen, activity feed, and leaderboard all refresh immediately after an action.
Post engagement screen
Opened by tapping a card. This screen shows network tabs across the top, a preview of the post on the selected network, and a table listing every advocate in the program with checkmarks for Repost, Share, Like, and Comment. The advocate's own row is bolded.
Under the caption, a "View on [Network]" link takes the advocate to the brand's live post, so they can read it before deciding to amplify it. This link only appears when the brand actually published there.
Activity tab
A newest-first feed of the advocate's own activity, written out in plain sentences. It covers six things: likes, comments, reposts, shares, brand mentions, and scheduled posts. A filter row lets advocates narrow the feed to any combination of those six.
- Timestamps are relative and calculated on the device, so they stay current while the screen is open.
- Tapping a row opens the live post on the network itself. On a phone, this hands off to that network's own app (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and so on) instead of a browser.
Leaderboard tab
A ranked list of advocates in the program, with medals for the top three, avatar, name, score, and the five engagement counts (reposts, shares, comments, mentions, likes) stacked under each name. Tapping a row expands it to show Reach and a plain breakdown of how the score was calculated.
- Date range filter for All time, Last 30 days, and Last 90 days.
- An advocate's own row is highlighted, and a sticky bar at the bottom of the screen shows their current rank whenever their row scrolls out of view. Tapping the sticky bar jumps back to their position.
Two things worth knowing about the numbers:
- Score is a weighted total, not a raw count. By default, a repost is worth 3, a share, comment, or mention is worth 2, and a like is worth 1. Brands can change these weights per program.
- Reach isn't a unique audience estimate. It's the sum of a profile's follower count at the time of each scored action, so three actions from the same 10,000 follower profile add up to a Reach of 30,000. It measures effort, not people reached.
Connecting social profiles in the app
Advocates can connect LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, and Threads accounts without leaving the app.
- Open the Vista Social app and go to Settings.
- Tap Connected profiles.
- Tap Connect and choose the network to add (or use the connect prompt on the Content tab if no profiles are connected yet).
- Follow the on-screen prompts. On most networks, this hands off to that network's own app or a browser where the advocate is already signed in, so it's just a tap or a Face ID confirmation rather than typing a password.
- If the network has multiple pages or accounts, choose the one to connect.
If a brand has capped how many profiles an advocate can connect, overall or per network, that limit is enforced here the same way it is on web.
Push notifications
When a brand adds new posts to a program, advocates get a push notification, something like "New content to share. [Brand] added 3 new posts for you to share." Tapping it opens the Content tab.
- Push respects the advocate's existing advocacy notification preference, so muting the in-app alert mutes push too. There's no separate setting to turn on.
- Push always opens the Content tab rather than a specific post, since a single notification can bundle several new posts added at once.
- Push notification text is in English only for now.
What each network supports
Share works on every network Vista Social supports. Like, Comment, and Repost are limited by what each network's API allows:
- Share, Like, Comment, and Repost: LinkedIn, X (Twitter)
- Share, Like, and Comment (no Repost): Facebook, YouTube
- Share and Comment only: Instagram, TikTok, Reddit
- Share only: Threads, Bluesky, Pinterest, Mastodon, Google Business, Tumblr, Snapchat
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do advocates need to download a separate app?
A: No. Advocates log in to the regular Vista Social app with their usual email and password. Their role determines whether they land in the standard app or the advocate experience.
Q: Can program managers or brand admins manage a program from the mobile app?
A: No. Creating programs, inviting advocates, and program analytics are still managed on web. The mobile app covers the advocate side only.
Q: Can an advocate open a specific post directly from a push notification?
A: Not yet. Every advocacy push opens the Content tab rather than a single post.
Q: Why can't an advocate act from their personal Facebook profile?
A: Personal Facebook profiles (as opposed to Facebook Pages) don't currently appear in the action profile list. This isn't specific to mobile.
