With the Slack integration, you can receive Vista Social notifications directly in your Slack workspace. You can connect different notification types to Slack channels and create multiple webhooks to keep notifications organized.
This article explains how to set up the integration between Vista Social and Slack, including how to create the Slack app, activate incoming webhooks, and connect the webhook to Vista Social.
Before you start
- An Account Owner must enable the Slack integration for your Vista Social account.
- You need access to the Slack workspace where you want to receive Vista Social notifications.
- You need to create a Slack app and enable Incoming Webhooks before connecting the webhook in Vista Social.
Setting up the Slack integration
To enable Vista notifications in Slack, an Account Owner must enable the integration first. Once the integration is enabled for your account, any Vista user can activate the webhooks and connect them in Slack.
Step 1: Create a Slack app
You only need to complete this step once. If you already created a Slack app for Vista Social, proceed to Step 2.
- Open Slack's Create Slack App page.
- Select From Scratch.
- Enter a descriptive name for your app, such as Vista Social Notifications.
- Select the Slack workspace where you want to use the app.
- Create the app.
|
Note This part of the setup is performed in Slack, not in Vista Social. |
Step 2: Activate webhooks for your Slack account
After creating the Slack app, enable Incoming Webhooks so Slack can generate webhook URLs for your channels.
- You will be taken to your webhook's Settings. Navigate to Incoming Webhooks.
- Click the toggle to On to activate incoming webhooks.
- Create the webhooks.
a. Click Add New Webhook to Workspace. You can create one or multiple webhooks, depending on how many Slack channels you want to use to receive notifications.
b. Click Copy to copy a specific webhook URL for your chosen Slack channel.
|
Note Important: Each webhook is associated with a specific Slack channel. If you want to use multiple channels, create a separate webhook for each channel. |
Step 3: Connect the webhook in Vista Social
Once you have copied the webhook URL from Slack, connect it to the appropriate notification type in Vista Social.
🕹️ Interactive guide
- In Vista Social, go to Notification Settings.
- Find the notification type you want to send to Slack.
- Select Slack as the notification method.
- Paste the webhook URL you copied from Slack.
- Click Save.
- Repeat this process for however many webhooks you want to create. You can only create one webhook per channel.
After these workflows are completed, any user in the designated Slack channel receives notifications for the activity you enabled notifications for.
Key things to check
- The Slack app has Incoming Webhooks enabled.
- The webhook URL was copied from the correct Slack workspace and channel.
- Each Slack channel has its own webhook.
- The webhook URL is pasted into the correct notification type in Vista Social.
- An Account Owner has enabled the Slack integration for the Vista Social account.
|
Note Create separate Slack webhooks for different channels if you want to organize different types of Vista Social notifications. |
Expected behavior
After the webhook is connected and saved, Vista Social sends the selected notifications to the associated Slack channel.
Anyone with access to that Slack channel can see the notifications sent through the webhook.
If you want notifications to appear in another Slack channel, create a webhook for that channel and connect it to the appropriate notification type in Vista Social.
Customize the Slack App's Appearance
You can optionally customize the appearance of your Slack app after the integration is set up.
1. Out of the box, your new Slack app will have a pretty generic icon with its notification.
2. If you want to change out the icon, feel free to use our logo, or your own branding. First, head to your newly created app's Basic Information area.
3. Here, you'll find the option to change the app icon, color, and name:
Now your notifications can have custom branding!
